Our
SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT
“Living in East Africa means that you live in, and around nature. You grow up with a sense of community and learn that everything feeds into each other, creating a self-sustaining system of growth and evolution. Humans have created a self-serving culture of taking without replenishing, without giving back and this has damaged the environment, putting it as well as us, in a precarious state. We need to re-examine and re-define the way we interact with each other, and with the planet in order to nurture a healthy, vibrant world.”Stephanie Bitature, Founder of Inko Sazana.
We are committed to making a positive impact on the environment, as well as on surrounding communities by using six of the sustainable development goals as pillars of our social and environmental responsibility framework.The SDG’s were created with the intention of ending extreme poverty, reducing inequalities, improving health and education and protecting the planet. We selected six of the SGD’s that we felt aligned with our brand and objectives the most;
People
Write so Community is a keystone of our culture at Inko Sazana, and is at the heart of everything we do. Ubuntu is an African philosophy that translates to “I am, because you are” and is the foundation of many communities in the region, embedding a feeling of connection, kindness and respect. The Inko Sazana community is centered on this concept and starts with the craftspeople who make the jewellery and expands to our customers, partners and collaborators. We want to spread a feeling of community and togetherness with the hope of encouraging a more connected and collaborative world.
One way we are doing this is by partnering with people who are committed to responsible management both inside and outside the workplace, by implementing a safe working environment that encourages equality and flexibility. We are a female-led team which is why its important for us to advocate for women. We work, collaborate and partner with organizations that empower women and support children. We want to you to feel inspired and proud of your fashion choices and purchase decisions.mething nice. Maybe a value proposition— tell us what you stand for.
Planet
The planet needs our care now more than ever with the evident consequences of global warming. We believe that every business has a responsibility to the environment. Uganda lies on the equator, enabling it to have an extremely diverse ecosystem that is rich in forests and wildlife. With our headquarters being in Kampala, we are constantly reminded of the beauty and comfort that nature provides us with. We are also reminded of the fragility of nature if it’s not protected. The planet is on a tipping point and needs to be supported in order to recover and thrive, providing us with a healthy world to live in. We want to spread awareness of the severity of climate change and the implications that follow by working with people and organizations that champion environmental responsibility.
